Mrs. Annie Lois Slaughter was born on May 12, 1924 in Ashburn, Georgia to the late Ardelia Holmes-Leary and John H. Leary. After a long illness, she went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of November 20, 2010 with loved ones by her side. At an early age, she was baptized at New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia. She attended the Turner County Public School System. In 1944 she moved to Roselle, New Jersey to live with her uncle and aunt, Rev. & Mrs. Charles Braxton. Annie worked for a short time at the Kilmore Industries in Edison, New Jersey and shortly after that on December 28, 1946, she entered into Holy Matrimony with the Love of her life the late Mr. James O. Slaughter. From this union ten children were born, seven boys and three girls. Annie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a great cook and caregiver to all of her nieces, nephews, grandchildren and the neighbors' children. Parents were comfortable knowing that their children were being cared for by "Mrs. Slaughter". She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Patricia Ann Jones and Linda Slaughter of Roselle and five sons Alan and Curtis of Roselle, Craig of Elizabeth, Donald (Rosa) of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Kelvin (Sally) of Ashburn, Georgia. She also leaves to mourn three brothers: Benjamin J. Leary of South Plainfield, John H. Leary (Susie) of Lithonia Georgia, Rev. Dr. James Leary (Shirley) of Richmond, Virginia and one special sister, Ms. Edna R. Leary of Elizabeth. Ten Grandchildren: Ernest Jones (Michele) of Roselle, Danielle Jones of Linden, Melissa Slaughter of Atlanta, Georgia, Jamie Slaughter of Plainfield, Khadesia, David, Allencia and Tristen of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Kierra and Alaysia of Ashburn, Georgia. Four-Great Grandchildren: Taniesha Watkins, Jasmine Jones, Myra Tyus and Ernest T. Jones, Jr. One-great-great grandson: Xavier Baskerville. Two adopted grandchildren: Ramsey and Navany Arias. A very special family friend Beverly Owens and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Annie Lois Slaughter.
