Obituary for Anthony DePalo

September 9, 1998 - October 31, 2016
Worcester, Massachusetts | Age 18

'Life is either a daring adventure…or nothing at all'. Everyone who knows and loves Anthony DePalo knew he had a passion and determination for exploring and enjoying all that life has to offer. At only 18 he was a man in a boy's body and had an exciting list of things he wanted to accomplish.

Sadly Anthony's life was cut short on Monday, October 31, 2016 from injuries sustained in a dirt bike accident while in Brookfield. Awaiting him in heaven were his grandfathers, Pantaleo 'Pal' DePalo and Phillip Herman. And so when you say good night to your child tonight give them an extra hug and tell them you love them….because you can!

Anthony Michael DePalo was born September 9, 1998 a son of David M. and Elizabeth (Herman) DePalo. A lifelong Worcester resident he was a recent graduate of Worcester Technical High School. Though certified in welding he was working in construction for G. M. Bergeron Construction Co.

While in high school he rowed crew with Worcester High School crew team and was the only freshman selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon program in China. This 17-day trip had numerous highlights and many memories made with classmates and teachers including the opportunity he had to operate a crane in the daily operations.

He was full of spunk…and had a pretty healthy dose of mischief throughout his life. With his free spirit, outgoing personality and drive to check off the many things on his to-do list his parents reflect now that he had no regrets. He was a hard worker and recently took ownership in his 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. And chances are inside was a Dunkie's cup, a bag of Dorito's or a kit kat bar. This truck was his baby and he anxiously looked forward to good New England winter where he could earn extra money with his plow. Throughout his life with his natural green thumb Anthony devotedly maintained the yards at his parents home and grandparents as well. He was a good kid.

And while death can seemingly change many things it can never change the love of his family. In addition to his parents, David and Beth he leaves his much loved older brothers, Nicholas J. and Matthew P. DePalo, all at home; his grandmothers, Marie A. (Morano) DePalo of Shrewsbury and Madeline B. (Pecora) Herman of Worcester; a host of many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be so very much missed.

Family and friends will honor and remember Anthony's life by gathering for calling hours at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center on Friday, November 4th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday in Saint Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton Street, Worcester at 10:00 a.m. Burial is private.

Anthony's memory would be honored with a donation UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester, MA 01655.
