Anthony Pirrone Obituary


Anthony Pirrone, 93, of Mt. Airy, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Carroll Hospital Center.  Born May 6, 1914 in Sicily, Italy, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Amelia Casalegge Pirrone.  He was the husband of Theresa Oreste Pirrone, who predeceased him on February 15, 2008.  Mr. Pirrone served in the Italian Army for two years as a young man and came to America in 1935.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a graduate of Ben Franklin University in Washington D.C.  He was employed with the National Guard for many years and then with the Naval Research Lab, both in Washington D.C., until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1977.  Mr. Pirrone was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown.  He enjoyed traveling to West Virginia and Florida, and spending time with his family.  Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Angela A. and John R. Martin of Walkersville; sons and daughter-in-law, John J. Pirrone of Mt. Airy and Joseph S. and Mary Beth Pirrone of Westminster; eight grandchildren, Robert A., Philip J., Kelly Theresa, Erin Rose and Diana Marie Martin, Katelyn T. and Kristina E. Pirrone and Sr. Denise LeRock D.C.; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by son Anthony Pirrone in 1984; and 3 brothers, Saverio, Frank and John Pirrone.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Center at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Andy Aaron, of St. Timothy's Roman Catholic Church, Walkersville, officiating.  Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.  The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown, Tuesday, April 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St. Peter's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 278, Libertytown, MD 21762.
