Heaven is welcoming Glenn Shackelford, a man anointed of God "to preach the gospel to the poor; sent to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." (Lk 4:18-19) Glenn's passion in life was to introduce others to Jesus the way he knew Jesus, in the truth of his Word and the power of his Spirit. Glenn's life was not easy but it was rich in the assurance that no matter what we go through, "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Rom 8:28) For 35 of his 66 years, Glenn ministered selflessly as a businessman, on mission trips overseas, as a pastor in Brenham and in Longview and in Rockdale as a caring landlord. He will be sorely missed. Glenn was born April 3, 1944 in Livingston, Texas. Survivors include his wife; Maggie Shackelford of Deanville, sons and daughters-in-law; Ben & Suzanne Shackelford, William Robert and Grace Rayshell Manos, daughters and sons-in-law; Laura Lynn & Rev. Samuel Zumwalt, Amy Lee & Eric Juston Kelm; brothers and sisters-in-law; Arthur Ray & Geri Shackelford, David Lynn & Tanna Carr, Smith Carr, Grandchildren; Hannah Grace Shackelford, Emily Joan Shackelford, Clare Francesca Zumwalt, Addilyn Rose Kelm, Sarah Faith Kelm, and Melody Grace Manos. Glenn was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Joan Shackelford; his mother Wilma and step-father Smith Carr, grandparents William Arthur and Anna Vee Blankenship and Marshall Preston & Jessie Belle Earp Shackelford. Services are set for 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 8, 2010, with Dr. Samuel Zumwalt officiating, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Interment will be later that day at 3:00 p.m., at Kurten Cemetery, under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. Mr. Shackelford passed away December 4, 2010. The family requests contributions to the Salvation Army of Rockdale, 235 Mill Ave., Rockdale, Texas 76567, (512) 446-2199.
