Major Arthur Broadbent Jr.
Arthur Broadbent Jr. age 80, of Hot Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning October 29th, 2011. Arthur was born November 12, 1930 in Worcester, Massachusetts the son of Arthur and Eva Rhodes Broadbent.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Blanche Irene Keith Broadbent of Hot Springs, Arkansas and his brother, Robert (Bob) Broadbent of San Bernardino, California.
Arthur leaves behind a wonderful loving family which includes his sister, Dorothy Carney of Auburn, Massachusetts. His three sons, Arthur Broadbent III (Chip) of Norfolk, Virginia; Charlie Broadbent and his wife, Paula Sanders Broadbent of Hot Springs; Richie Broadbent, and his wife Jennifer of Wichita, Kansas.
Arthur's pride and joy were his grandchildren, Andrew Broadbent, son of Charlie and Paula Broadbent; Alexis and Aiden Broadbent, daughter and son of Richie and Jennifer Broadbent plus many extended family members.
Arthur graduated from South High School in Worcester, and then attended Worcester State Teachers College until his entry into the United States Air Force in December of 1950, where he served our nation for 26 years earning the rank of Major. His service took him all around the world as a pilot and administrative leader. He received many awards and recognition while serving in the Air Force. Upon his retirement in 1976, the family returned home to Hot Springs, where Arthur served the community in the banking industry with Landmark Savings and Loan. He loved people and continued his relationships through baking delivering almost 5000 loaves of his famous Zucchini Bread to many family and friends.
Arthur was a member of Crossgate Church, formerly Second Baptist Church of Hot Springs. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as a young boy and that faith, carried him through many challenges in life especially over this past year. Arthur was active in his community serving in Hot Springs Homebuilders Association, Hot Springs Junior Achievement, and Charter member of the Lake Hamilton Optimist Club. His fraternal memberships include, Hot Springs Lodge #62 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Little Rock, AR. and Moslah Temple of Fort Worth, TX.
Visitation will be Tuesday November 1st, 2011 from 4-6pm at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Celebration service will be 10am Wednesday November 2nd, 2011 at Gross Funeral Home with Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery immediately following the service.
Pallbearers will be members of the United States Air Force and VFW Post 2278 of Hot Springs. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hot Springs Masonic Lodge #62 where Arthur was a 32nd degree Mason.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society of Garland County or the local VFW Post 2278.
The family would like to thank the caring employees of Brookfield Assisted Living and Hospice Home Care, both of Hot Springs for the love, friendship and compassion shown to our father during this past month. We consider you at special part of our family.
