On June fifth, in Vickland, Mississippi, Athersteen Muskin began her life's journey. "Bay" as she was affectionately known to her family was the second child born to Walter and Isabella Bennett, joining sibling, Isaac. Later, Walter, Pearl, Edwin, Frank and Bertha joined the family. Her mother, Isabella, father, Walter, and brothers, Isaac and Edwin preceded her in death. Athersteen professed a hope in Jesus, Christ at the tender age of 11, and was baptized at the Pleasant Valley Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend S.S. Imes. Upon moving to St. Louis, Missouri, she joined the Greater Calvary Institutional Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Spencer Wilford and now, Reverend Napolean Bryant where she served as the financial secretary for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Deaconess Board, President of the Pastor Aide committee, member of the trustee board and served on the decorating committee of every Pastor Anniversary. Athersteen was educated in the Anquila School System in Mississippi and attended the St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley in St. Louis, Missouri. As a business woman, she worked in public relations, marketing and sales for many years and as an entrepreneur for Pre-paid Legal Services, Athersteen earned many certificates of completion in corporate training and was highly respected in the business community. Athersteen was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She met and married her soul mate, which was the love of her life, Berton Muskin, who preceded her in death. The two shared 56 years together, and to this union five children were born; Robert, Lawrence, Anthony, Rhonda, and Kenneth. She was always teaching them to trust God in everything and He will see them through. She shared her faith with everyone she met, and walked the life that she professed. She was a "classy lady", teaching young ladies how to be likeminded. Athersteen was faithful until the end. She was known as "Chica" to her prayer group (Sonja, KK, Pam, Sistah, Adrienne, Melody and Markita) who prayed always without cease. On Wednesday, October 19th, 2011, Athersteen Muskin departed this life at 8:45 a.m. in her home, surrounded by family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Robert, (Rosietta), Anthony (Marvette), Rhonda (Glenn Sr.), Kenneth (Cecelia), twenty-five grandchildren, and thirty-eight great grandchildren, two brothers, Walter (Vera), Frank (Gwen), two sisters, Pearl (Ira), Bertha (Bevely), many other nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and a host of other relatives and friends.
