ELLSWORTH-A Mass of Christian Burial will offered at 10AM Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in St. Michael Catholic Church preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:40AM in the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Atty. George B. Sofranko Jr., 54, who passed away at 1:54PM Friday, August 14, 2009 in Select Specialty Hospital in Boardman. George was born July 12, 1955 in Warren the son of George B. and Anne (Reno) Dunstan Sofranko Sr. George was a 1973 graduate of Western Reserve High School and attended Kent State University and graduated from Youngstown State University. George received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Capital Law in Columbus and held licenses in Ohio and Florida. George was an active attorney in Mahoning County and fought for the welfare of the disabled. A member of the Ohio and Florida Bar Associations, George was a deputy sheriff with Mahoning County; was Clerk of Courts for Mahoning County Court #5 in Canfield and was the Drug Court Coordinator for Mahoning County Alcohol & Drug Addiction Services Board. George was a member of MENSA, was the first man elected to the Quota Club International; member of the Girl Scouts of Lake to River; Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. A man of the Catholic Faith, George was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Canfield and as a kid growing-up; George would often be found at St. Paul�s Monastery in Canfield. George was an avid fan and lover of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians and enjoyed going to Rock Concerts; especially a great fan of Bruce Springstein; and enjoyed attending the Scrappers games. George is survived by his mother, Anne Dunstan Sofranko of the home; a sister Patricia Sofranko of the home and a brother Don (Darlene) Dunstan of Georgetown, KY. George was preceded in death by his father, George B. Sofranko, Sr. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 9AM until 9:40AM in the funeral home prior to leaving for church. The family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to St. Paul�s Monastery, Rt. 224 in Canfield.
