At WH VAMC Feb. 4, 2012, Barbara E. Lanier of 670 Mix Ave, Hamden, CT. Daughter of the late Beather and Daniel Lanier. Sister of Lillian Owens of Carson, CA., Dr. Jack (Becky) Lanier of Richmond, VA., Dr. Daniel (Kay) Lanier of Chester, VA., Thomas (Patricia) Lanier of Cleveland, OH., Jesse (Barbara M) Lanier of Suffield, CT., Ronald (Marge) Lanier of Stamford, CT., Dr. Garrie (Lavonne) Moore of Greenville, NC., and the late Doris Dada. She also leaves a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and dear friends. Barbara left no stone unturned. She lead a very active and enjoyable life. She was a member of Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ, in younger years active in Sunday School and later years Bible Study and a Good Member. She retired from Southern New England Telephone (SNET) after 32 years. She joined the US Navy while on a Military leave from SNET and later, "Try One" with Connecticut Army National Guard. Barbara graduated from the University of New Haven. Barbara received numerous awards, citations, and good conduct services. With SNET she held numerous positions and retired as a computer systems specialist. She was active with the Telephone Pioneers of America-Morris F. Tyler Chap. # 9. She was also active in Hamden community organizations and a life member of several Veteran's organizations. Barbara loved to travel. She vacationed in Europe, West, East and North Africa, Middle East, Egypt, Bermuda, Caribbean Islands, and most states in America. Family and friends may call on Friday, Feb. 10 from 10-11 am and attend a Funeral Service at 11 am in the Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ, 217 Dixwell Ave. New Haven, CT. Interment with Military Honors will follow in State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE. HAMDEN. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ, Missionary Board, or to the charity of your choice.
