Barbara Joan (Larrabee) Barnard passed away on Thursday, September 1st at Providence Milwaukie Hospital in Portland, OR. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on June 14, 1934, Barbara and her husband Richard resided in Chester, NJ until 2000 when they moved to St. Albans VT. They moved to Portland, OR in 2010 to be near their daughter, Jane. She graduated from the Sherbrooke School of Nursing and was employed as an RN at Morristown Memorial Hospital, and later enjoyed her second career as a travel agent. Barbara was active with her churches: Church of the Messiah in Chester, St. Lukes Episcopal Church in St. Albans, and All Saints Episcopal Church in Portland. She was an avid gardener and photographer, and loved travelling and genealogy. As a lover of the arts, Barbara was active in the Chester Theatre Group where she directed and had a hand in many successful productions. She also played the piano and was a jazz singer in her earlier years. Barbara is survived by her husband Richard, daughters Jane Barnard of Portland, OR, Ann Raymond of Port St. Lucie, FL, Mary Barnard of Ft. Pierce, FL and son John Barnard of Denver, CO. She had 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild with another due this fall. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Portland. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Providence Milwaukie Hospital Foundation (503-513-8325) and All Saints Episcopal Church (503-777-3829).
