Sammons, Barbara (Thomas), 95, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully August 23, 2011. She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. James I. Sammons.


 


Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Ernest K. and Alice (Beale) Thomas. Mrs. Sammons graduated from the University of Rhode Island and was a registered nurse. She served as a nurse in the US Army during WWII and later at South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI. She met and married her husband at Pearl Harbor and lived all over the world during his career as a communications officer in NATO. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge, and was an accomplished oil painter.


 


She leaves two children, James I. Sammons, III of North Kingstown, RI and Elizabeth J. Francis of Hilton Head, SC; a brother, Stanley B. Thomas; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.


 


Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11am in the New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingstown Road (Rt. 138), Kingston, RI.  In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory to Home Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904, would be greatly appreciated.
