Barbara W. Avera, 82, of the 500 block of NW Backwoods Rd., Moyock, NC, went to join her beloved husband Jack C. Avera on December 18, 2011. A native of Virginia Beach, VA, she was the daughter of the late Morrison A. and Elsie S. Walker. She was a founding member and Past President of The Virginia Beach Sand Witches, the first all womens fishing club in Virginia, and the only member to earn the Masters Fishing Award. She loved being a wife and mother but enjoyed being a NANNIE most. She is survived by her two daughters, Andrea Colyer and husband Jim of Elizabeth City, NC and Kathy Falvey of Moyock, NC; 11 grandchildren, Wayne, Lori, Linda, Jack, Cindy, Barbara, Susan, Kevin, Keith, Forrest and Katrina; 36 great-grandchildren; 20 great great-grandchildren; her life long best friend, Joyce White; and many other family members. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel with C.B. Knight officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
