Bertha Roberts
Bertha Barbara Haas Tucker Roberts, 91, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died September 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
She was born March 9, 1920, in Davidsonville, to John Baptiste Haas and Matilda Mayr Haas, who invested in tobacco farming. She was educated at Annapolis High School and was employed at Fort Meade during the war, facilitating P.O.W. mail. In later years, she worked for the State of Maryland as a claims analyst for the Department of Employment and Human Resources, retiring after 30 years of service.
She was active in MCEA (Maryland Classified Employees Association) and held the position of treasurer for many years in the local chapter. Other memberships included the Ladies of the Elks and St. Mary's Church. She also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City. An avid shopper, she was always elegantly dressed, poised and confident.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman J. Tucker; and second husband, Wallace G. "Buddy" Roberts.
She is survived by her brother John Haas of Bowie; son, Norman J. Tucker Jr. and wife Alicia of Annapolis; grandson, Norman J. Tucker III and wife Kimberly of Ocean City; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Maggie.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 2 at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, Inc., 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. The funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 3 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
