Bertram Hathaway Bloor, Jr., died peacefully at his home on July 21, 2013. He was born March 22, 1925 at the old Seton Hospital, the son of Ruby Talley Bloor and Bertram H. Bloor, Sr. of Austin, Texas.
Bert received a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from UT Austin and married Jane Smith November 13, 1948. Not only did he witness profound technological advances during his life, but he was a pioneer in aircraft design, from fighter jets and bombers to the heatshield on the first space capsule.
Bert delighted in telling stories of his experiences and the family history of their settlement in a log cabin in Travis County in the late 1800's establishing the family ranch that has been owned and operated for over 100 years.
Bert deeply loved and is loved by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, of 64 years; their two children Cynthia Kennickel and Martha Smith; five granddaughters, Virginia, Sandra, Judith, Gloria, and Elizabeth; four great granddaughters, Hailey, Taylor, Natalie, and Lauren; and his sister Anne Schryver.
The family extends its sincerest appreciation to Dr. Scott Ream for his compassion and medical care for Bert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Austin, The Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice.
Graveside services will be held for the family at Oakwood Annex Cemetery.
