Bess Blalock, 96, of Russellville, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at her home. She was born August 15, 1916, at Russellville, to William Franklin and Lucy Chambers Bryan. She was an Avon representative for many years, was a member of the Pope County Home Demonstration Club and the Arkansas Valley Craft Club, and a charter member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Lawrence Mars and Henry D. Blalock Sr.; a son, Lawrence E. Mars; two step-sons, Henry D. Blalock Jr. and William J. Blalock; a step-daughter, Wanda June Smith; a step-grandson, Walter Blalock; three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Thelma Gray of Russellville, Reta and Charles Greenlee of Maumelle, and Edith Dollar of Fort Smith; a step-daughter, Martha Schuh of Marion; 10 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Shinn Chapel officiated by the Rev. Neil Edmondson and the Rev. Larry Pettus. Burial will be in Baker's Creek Cemetery by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, from 5-6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their thanks to Elders Choice, Pope County Home Health, Pope County Hospice, and Dr. Robert Thurlby with a special thanks to her caregiver, Catalina Zelaya, and to David and Marie Blalock for their love and support.
