Brown-Holley Funeral Home
In Memory of
Bessie Payne Thompson
Funeral services for Bessie Thompson, 92, of Holly Ridge were held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church in Holly Ridge with Rev. David Herrington, Rev. Keith Evans, and Rev. Marvin Reiger officiating.
Bessie Payne Thompson was born on September 22, 1914 in Epps, LA and passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Bessie as everyone called her or "maw maw" (along with Mr. Manual until his death in 1995) ran Thompson's Grocery north of Holly Ridge for over 40 years until her health failed her. The community store was noted for the breakfast she prepared and the ice cream she dipped (as it is still in operation today as would be her wishes). Thompson's Grocery is a place everyone could come and eat, sit and visit; she would have it no other way. Many children and grandchildren were raised in the store.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Manuel Thompson. She is survived by Four Sons, Douglas Thompson and wife, Nellie of Monroe, LA, Tommy Thompson and wife, Shirley of Holly Ridge, Ronnie Thompson and wife, Tanja of Monroe, LA, and Terry Thompson and wife, Denise of Holly Ridge; Grandchildren, Pat McLawchlin, Zoe Brooks, Greg Thompson, Vanessa Morgan, John Thompson, Niki Thompson, Menko Thompson, Mara Thompson, Juri Thompson, Terrah Marsh, and Justin Thompson; Fourteen Great Grandchildren; eight Step Great Grandchildren; and two Great-Great Grandchildren; and seven Step Great-Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews, and a host of Friends.
Grandsons, Greg Thompson, John Thompson, Justin Thompson, Menko Thompson, Juri Thompson, and Ben Thompson served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were the past and present Early Morning Breakfast Crowd of Thompson's Grocery.
All memorials may be sent to Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 134 Bethel Church Road, Rayville, LA 71269.
