Bessie Gardner Toulmin Goudelock was born in Mobile, Alabama, August 17, 1911, and died on March 10, 2011. She was preceded in death by her Father, Lyman Dorgan Toulmin, her Mother, Bessie Gardner Stein Toulmin, three brothers, Lyman Dorgan Toulmin, Jr, Ashby Harris Toulmin and George Bowers Toulmin, II, two sisters, Clotilda Toulmin and Eugenie Toulmin.
She is survived by three nephews, Thomas Nimmer Toulmin (Melinda), Ashby Harris Toulmin, Jr. and Fred Toulmin (Michelle) and Sister-in-law Mrs. Ashby Toulmin. Bessie attended Toulminville School, Gorgas School and Murphy High School. She worked as a secretary to the Boy Scout Executive and for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. For a number of years Bessie was employed by Alcoa Steamship Co as a secretary/ passenger representative. After leaving Alcoa, she worked for Associated Travel Services as a travel agent. Bessie was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a Charter member of Altrusa, a Charter member of Tristan DeLuna Chapter of the DAR and a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Old Church Memorial Fund, c/o St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 4051 Old Shell Road, Mobile, Alabama, 36608. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday March 19, 2011, at St. Paul’s Old Church on Old Shell Road. Graveside services will follow at Springhill Cemetery.
