Betsye Ruth Smith Witcher
November 14, 1939 – January 6, 2012
Betsye Witcher joined her heavenly Father on Friday, January 6, 2012.
Beloved & devoted wife, mother, friend, & leader, Betsye loved her Lord, her late husband Lester Witcher, family, friends, church & community. Betsye led an extremely active life & was passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. She set high standards for herself & was a lifetime role model & inspiration to those who knew her. Betsye faithfully used her God given talents and leadership abilities - coaching & mentoring others throughout her life as a parent, friend, church leader, successful entrepreneur, & human resources professional.
Betsye touched the lives of literally thousands of students & dance instructors through her dance & gymnastics studio & the Now Dance Theatre in Lake Jackson, TX, as well as her leadership contributions & long time affiliation with Texas Association of Teachers of Dance.
In 1986, Betsye moved back to the Austin area with her husband Les & began her career as a distinguished human resources professional & AHRMA leader, most recently serving as HR Director for Dave Pelz Golf in Spicewood, TX.
Committed to her community, Betsye's volunteer work included service through The Junior Service League, Crisis Ministries, various civic associations, & her church. An active member of The Lakeway Church, Betsye's top priority was her Lord. Betsye faithfully shared her faith with others & served in many leadership capacities over the years – Bible Study leader, Deacon, Elder, Stephen Minister, missions, leadership roles with the Emmaus Community, & so much more.
Betsye was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lester "Les" Witcher; her parents, Richard & Ruth Smith; & her brother, Richard "Sonnye" Smith, Jr. She is survived by daughter & son-in-law, Terri & Norman Seifert, of Spicewood, TX; daughter & son-in-law, Vicki & Todd Smith of Lake Jackson, TX; son & daughter-in-law, Rick & Kristin Witcher, of Cedar Park, TX; eight grandchildren; & two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2PM at The Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd., Lakeway, TX 78734. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Lakeway Church building fund.
