Betty Ann Staples, 78, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away, Sunday January 16, 2011 at her home. She was born November 24, 1932 in Paradise, Kentucky, the daughter of William Burr Burton and Gertie Mae (Childress) Burton. Betty was a self-employed tax preparer for more than forty years. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Michigan City, IN, also a member of the Friendly Neighbors Home Extension Club, Dancing with Friends, Michigan City Fraternal Order of the Moose Ladies Auxiliary. Betty's interests included dancing, reading, antiques, singing and baking. On June 10, 1950, in Drakesboro, KY, she married Neville Ray Staples who survives. She is also survived by her three sons - Harold (Lori) Staples of Dallas, TX, Gregory Burton Staples of Michigan City, IN, Larry (Karen) Staples of Las Vegas, NV; daughter - Mary (Jim) Hodges of Westville, IN; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren, who affectionately call her "Mamaw"; three sisters, Dorothy (Michael) Carmin, Billie (Robert) Voss, and Linda (David) Neuhauser. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one great grandson. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm & Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 9:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday January 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ransom Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N.
