Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Connors

B. 4/25/1916 Columbus, Ohio
D 12/21/2011 Davidsonville at home
M. LtC. John A. Connors USAF 58 yrs of marriage ended with John's death. When he died, the priest emphasized what a close union they had.

Betty loved her family and friends, her religion, and her country. She also loved being Irish.

She worked during WWII at Wright Field in Ohio and in New York City, NY for the Eastern Ferry Command (women ferried aircraft to troops),

She raised a family of four children- Carol, Jeffrey (dead), Dennis, and Kevin while traveling around the world as an Air Force family.

She volunteered in the American Red Cross for 30+ years, mostly at the Bethesda Naval Chapel

She also volunteered for many years as a tour guide at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC,

She studied along-side John as he became a deacon and she became a Eucharistic minister. They were very active in church activities at the Bethesda Naval Hospital and at St. Mary's in Annapolis. She had a strong devotion to Our Lady of Ephesus.

Betty loved people and no one was a stranger. She would know everything about them in five minutes! Overall, she preferred to be in the background, but directing things. Betty loved to party and have a Manhattan once in a while.

She was also fey in the Irish way, which could be unsettling at times, but she would use her knowledge about people for good and would always put others above herself. Her smile is what most people remember; it was beautiful and reflected her open, loving soul.

From the Annapolis Capital on March 4, 2012:

CONNORS, ELIZABETH "BETTY" JANE, 95, a resident of Davidsonville and previously of Annapolis and Bethesda, died peacefully at home of natural causes December 21, 2011.
She was born April 25, 1916 in Columbus, Ohio, where she went to high school and also took continuing education classes. She did administrative work at the Eastern Ferry Wing Command in New York City during World War II, then later Korean War Orphans Relief, and Trinity College in Washington, D.C. She was selfless and could "read" any person and make them feel accepted, all within five minutes of meeting them.

Betty was a U.S. Air Force military wife, performing many duties in support of her husband and family. She also helped her husband with deaconate work and was a Eucharistic minister in the Catholic Church. Betty volunteered for approximately 30 years with the American Red Cross, and directed tours at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Her interests were her family and friends, her church, and her country.

Married on February 3, 1945, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LtC. John Andrew Connors, USAF, (retired). She was also predeceased by her son, John Jeffrey Connors; her parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Murphy of Columbus, Ohio; and her brother and two sisters.
