Betty Whittle ("Boo," "Betty Boo," "Smokey") was born April 23, 1947, in New Orleans, LA, to the late Clarence and Alma Edwards. She was the seventh child and youngest sister.
In 1966, she graduated from St. Helena High School in Greensburg, LA. Immediately after graduating, she moved to Dallas, TX where she met Jimmy Whittle and to this union three daughters were born.
Her place of employment consisted of Texas Instrument, Woody Corny Dog, Good Luck Drive Inn, Burger Street, and Goodwill.
In 1964, she was baptized at M.C.C. of God and Christ. Fresh Start Community Church became her church home in 2004, where she was active singing in the choir, reading the responsive reading, and praying until her death.
She departed this life on Monday, December 5, 2011, at home. She was 64 years old. Her brothers, Clarence Edwards, Jr. (Shanoon) and Robert Edwards, and sister, Loretta Braziel preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Deanna Edwards-Bradford, Pondra Edwards-Brock and Kimberly Whittle; seven grandchildren, Omar (Prince) Whittle, Clintetta Thompson, Darius Bradford, Porsche Hicks, Jekini Johnson, Kei'Aundre Ray, and Kevon Patterson; two great grandchildren; Le'Zerion and D'Varcea Elder, all of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Mary Edwards, Alma Higgenbotham, and Barbara Wallace, all of Louisiana; two brothers, David Edwards (Belinda) of Louisiana and Michael Edwards of Connecticut; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will all miss her dearly.
