Betty M. Graham, a lifelong Grays Harbor resident, passed away on January 12, 2013, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital at the age of 98. Betty was born in Aberdeen to Joel and Anna Backa on December 3, 1914. She attended schools in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1932. She then attended and graduated from Triple Cities Institute. Betty married Leslie Graham on March 24, 1945. Leslie passed away in 1985. Betty and her husband loved to travel and visited many states. Betty was also a member of the Rho Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She worked for many years at Rayonier Inc. (Grays Harbor Paper), retiring in 1971. Betty enjoyed having lunches at the Aberdeen Senior Center where she also loved to play Pinochle with her friends. She liked to listen to her "talking books" and working jigsaw puzzles. She was also an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Mariners, Seahawks, and the NCAA Basketball Tournament. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Christine Graham of Melbourne, Arkansas; a grandson, Dan Evensen, of Rochester; granddaughter, Mary Jo Evensen of Olympia; her nieces, Kathryn Bailey of Montesano, Jo- Anne (Ron) McCown of Aloha, Oregon and Susan (Doug) King of Aberdeen, with whom she has lived with for the past 11 years; nephews, Bill (Maureen) Trew of Sequim, Washington and John (RogerAnn) Leith of Bakersfield, California. She is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews; a very special great-great-niece and five special great-great-nephews who were very dear to her. Two brothers; three sisters; a step-daughter, Sharon Evensen; and a step-son, Richard Graham, preceded her in death. At Betty's request, there will be no service. The family will gather for her burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Aberdeen Seniors Center, 117 E 3rd Street in Aberdeen or to a charity of your choice.
