Betty M. Madeira, 81, passed away December 9, 2010, in Elizabeth City, NC. A native of Sullivan, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Hazel Bolen. She retired from the Navy Exchange as Operational Manager after 20 years of service. She is survived by her four children, Karen S. Wilcox of Charlottesville, VA, Charles C. Madeira IV and wife Patti of Geneva, IL, Fredric W. Madeira and wife Sharon of Elizabeth City, NC and Joyce M. Stidham Pearce and husband Bennie of Ahoskie, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Keri, Megin, Tonya, Michael, Nicole, Amanda, Chas, Kyle, Thomas, Ricky, Kevin, Derick and Elizabeth; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alexa, Shannon, Olivia, Kelly, Michael, Halie, Kristen, Madison, Bella, Jaden, Connor and Elaina; and a sister, Joyce A. Shaffer of Chowan, NC. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. The burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
