Betty Marie James, 80, of Nuremberg, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at her home. Born in Buttzville, NJ, April 20, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ruth (Riddle) Yerkes. Betty had lived in Brooklyn, NY, many years in Belvidere, NJ before moving to Nuremberg three years ago. Betty was member of Grace Fellowship Church, Hazleton, PA. She had also worked for Imco Manufacturing, Belvidere, NJ. She was a volunteer at Waterloo Village for Historic Indian reenactments, where she was known by the name "White Dove", and a volunteer for the Pequest Fish Hatchery. Betty loved and enjoyed gardening, crafts, Indian artifacts, and nature. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Karen Ann James; a granddaughter, Myra James; her first husband, Bart James; a brother, Pete Yerkes; a sister, Dorothy Klimko; and a longtime companion, Elvin (Big Foot) Shook. Surviving are six children, Larry and his wife Lillian of Nanticoke, PA; Diana Dallachiesa and her husband Douglas of Nuremberg, PA; Richard of Phillipsburg, NJ; Joseph and his wife Marianne of Jim Thorpe, PA; Betty Ann Denker and her husband David of Easton, PA; and Bart of Bear Creek Township, PA; 17 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother Thomas Yerkes and his wife Judy of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters Joan Hallett and her husband Larry of Bangor, PA; and Judy Baumann and her husband Robert of Oxford, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions are requested to be made in her memory to Immanuel Christian School, 725 N. Locust St., Hazleton PA 18201 or Hospice of St. John, 1201 N.
