Betty W. Thompson
Greenville, SC

Betty Whichard Thompson, 87, of Greenville, died peacefully Monday, December 26, 2011 at North Greenville Hospital.

Born in High Point, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen Doggett Whichard.

Betty was retired from Rite Aid Corporation and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She had been living happily at Homewood Residence, on Boyce Street in Greenville. She loved her family. She also enjoyed keeping up with what was going on in the world, from fashion to politics to Clemson football. She was always known for having a beautiful smile on her face.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Benjamin Thompson, Jr. and her five siblings. She is survived by her children, Diane Thompson Durham and husband, Frank Durham, Jane Thompson Kelly and husband, Dr. J. Don Kelly, and Haskell Benjamin III "Tommy" Thompson and wife, Heidi Thompson. She has eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren who affectionately know her as Gamma.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon, December 29th at Woodlawn Memorial Park in the Remembrance Mausoleum Chapel at 12:30pm with services to follow at 2:00pm with the Reverend Carol Allison and Reverend Michael Bruce officiating. Entombment to follow.
