A Funeral Mass for Bettye (Kocurek) Siptak, 93, of Caldwell is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at New Tabor Cemetery under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. A Rosary will be read at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mrs. Siptak passed away on April 27, 2011 in Caldwell. Bettye was born Elizabeth Ann Kocurek on July 9, 1917 to Joe L. Kocurek and Adela (Bordovsky) Kocurek in Dime Box, Texas. She was educated in the Dime Box School and later graduated from Caldwell High School in 1934. Her father, being a great believer in education, sent all seven children to study at the University of Texas during the great depression, which in itself was quite an accomplishment. She attended UT from 1934 to 1938. She was a member of the Newman Club, the Czech Club and Alpha XI Delta Social Sorority. Bettye was a Bluebonnet Belle Nominee in 1937. In August of 1938 she married Dr. John E. Siptak at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dime Box, Texas. Bettye was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Caldwell, the Altar Society and the Rosary Circle. Bettye is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Gail Siptak of Houston, James and Jimmy Sue Siptak of Alvin, Steven and Mary Siptak of Houston; daughter and son-in-law; Bettye Carolyn and Roger Tolar, Sr. of San Antonio; twin brother and sister, Jody Kocurek and Josephine Krenek, both of Austin; sisters-in-law, Jerry Siptak of Caldwell, Irene Kocurek of San Antonio; 10 grand children, 18 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Louis and wife Millie Matcek Kocurek, Arnold Kocurek; sisters, Olga and her husband Paddy Lann, Elenora and husband Lew Troiano; niece Susan Krenek; nephews, Jay Krenek, and Bobby and Barry Kocurek. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Altar Society of Caldwell, 504 N. Johnston, Caldwell, Texas 77836.
