IRMO - Funeral service for Billie Kirby Carter, 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with burial in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carter died Friday, February 3, 2012. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late William M. Kirby and Ruth Ehney Abernathy. She retired from the Veterans Administration with over 30 years of service. A member of Rosewood Baptist Church, she enjoyed fishing, cooking and gardening.
Surviving are her son, John W. Carter Jr. (Charlene) of Columbia; daughters, Donna Jennings (Tony) of Columbia, Carol Barlow of Warner Robins, Ga., Patricia Bennett of Columbia; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Robert M. Kirby of Greenville, N.C.; sister, Jackie Flowers of South Congaree; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John William "Bill" Carter Sr.; son-in-law, Ron Barlow; grandson, Troy Barlow; and sister, Nellie K. Wylie.
