Brenda Daw Richmond 71, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord, September 21, 2011. Brenda was surrounded by her loving family during her brave struggle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Maude Williams of Pensacola. She lived in Virginia Beach with her husband Don. Brenda was born December 2, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky. She grew up in Pensacola, Florida, where she graduated from Pensacola High School in the Class of 1957. In 1958 she met a Naval Aviation Cadet, Donald Richmond, and after a lengthy courtship, they were married when Don received his wings in 1960. Brenda and Don moved frequently, as navy couples do, serving in Lakehurst, New Jersey; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Glencoe, Georgia; Monterey, California; Patuxent River, Maryland; Washington, DC; and Alameda and San Diego, California. Brenda was always active in the Officer's Wives organizations and was a perfect supporter of Don's naval career. After Don's retirement from the Navy, Brenda and Don built several businesses in San Diego. She enjoyed a second career with the University of California, San Diego where she was assistant to the Director of the Office of Graduate Studies and Research. Brenda retired from UCSD in 1999. In recent years, Brenda and Don traveled the country extensively to enjoy the company of friends and family members. She enjoyed spending time in Pensacola where she had many friends and family. God blessed Brenda and Don with three daughters, five granddaughters and two grandsons. In 2010, Brenda and Don moved to Virginia Beach to be near their daughters and their grandchildren. Brenda was a wonderful companion and friend to her girls, socializing, exercising, and studying the Bible together. She enjoyed decorating, cooking, food and nutrition, and outdoor activities. She loved red roses and planted many around the house to add a touch of color. Brenda will be fondly remembered by her husband of 51 years; daughter, Carole Sharpe (Matthew); daughter, Christine Alexander (Richard); daughter, Cathy Jennings (Timothy); grandchildren, Lauren and Camille Sharpe; Victoria and Charles Alexander; Emma, Elizabeth, and William Jennings; sister Gloria Preston (Brady) of Savannah, GA; and, from Pensacola, sister, Joyce Porras (Johnny); sister, Rita Kohli (Dennis); brother, John Williams (Linda), and brother, Don Williams (Denise). She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Charlotte Rasmussen. Services will be private at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
