DATELINE GREENWOOD BRENDA BURGESS Brenda Kay Burgess, 69, resident of 202 Summit Street died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Cherokee County, NC, February 7, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Duel Burgess, a World War II hero and Ella Hamby Queen. Ms. Burgess was a graduate of Clinton High School and Limestone College, where she earned a BA degree in Business Administration. She was retired from Moore Business Forms where she was employed from 1966-1995. Ms. Burgess was a member of Harris Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Master's Disciples Sunday School Class. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Gilbert Truslow and husband, Robert of Valrico, FL; a son, Scott Gilbert and wife, Pauline of Pendleton; five grandchildren; sisters, Deanna Burgess of Greenwood and Ateaka Wiley of Fort Mill; and a brother, Artie Queen and wife, Debbie of Augusta, GA. A memorial service will be conducted Friday at 10:00 AM at Harris Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Thomas officiating. Private burial will be in the Burgess Family Cemetery in Murphy, NC. The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the church social hall until 11:45AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, Palliative Care, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646. Blyth Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the Burgess family.
