Mr. Brigadier Walter Gordon Hooper Obituary

Brigadier Walter Gordon Hooper, 94, of Quarryville, PA, was Promoted to Glory on Thursday morning at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, where he had resided since May of 1998. Born in West Warwick, RI on July 13, 1917, he was the son of the late Henry and Nancy Hooper. Walter was the husband of the late Beatrice Mary Arnold Hooper, who passed away in August of 2001.

Walter completed 45 years of active service as a Salvation Army Officer, and was known as a man of Prayer, Faith, and The Word. Many remember him for his Holiness preaching. He also loved playing his cornet for pleasure and with The Salvation Army Band. On his lighter side, he loved New York Yankees Baseball, and was a fan of Babe Ruth.

Walter will be lovingly remembered by his daughters; Major Marilyn E. White of San Antonio, FL, Major Nancy J. Lants of Clearwater, FL and Faith J. McDonnell of Annandale, VA, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a brother, Colonel Floyd Hooper (R) of Lancaster. Along with his wife, Beatrice, Walter was preceded in death by a grandson, William Hood, Jr.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Life Celebration from the Salvation Army Chapel, 131 S. Queen St., Lancaster, PA on Saturday at 2:00 PM with Major B. Bryan Smith and Major Willie Mae Lyle officiating. Interment will be held in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY on Sunday at 1:30 PM. The family will receive friends at The Salvation Army on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
