Sharon Springs - Bruce L. Cater, 64, of Hoyt Road, died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a long illness.
Born January 2, 1946 in Cobleskill, Bruce was the son of Darwin and Ruth (Bogardus) Cater.
He was a graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School.
Working as a self employed farrier all his life, Bruce was involved extensively with the Cobleskill Agriculture Society. He was manager of the horse shows at the fairgrounds, as well as a judge for many other area horse shows.
His hobbies include that of showing, training and riding horses, collecting guns and hunting. He was a member of the NRA and AQHA.
Bruce had many wonderful qualities which include that of always being remembered for his strong work ethic, having the “old school mentality”, being a wonderful family provider, and always someone to look up to.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (France) Cater of Sharon Springs; four sons: Brian Cater of Sharon Springs, Shawn (Debbie) Cater of Sprakers, Chris (Sandra) Cater of Central Bridge, and Charles Cater of Utica; three brothers: Doug (Joan) Cater of Schoharie, James Collins of Cobleskill, and Wayne Collins of Cobleskill; and his five grandchildren: Jessie, Ashley, Nathan, Savannah, and Daniel.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., and Cobleskill with Rev. Mark Kelly, of the Faith Bible Church in Sprakers, officiating.
Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday. Burial will be in Seward Valley Cemetery, Dorloo, NY.
