Carl Richard Butler, Sr., 79, of Little Island Creek, Pipestem, died Monday evening, April 18, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Dee Dee Hill with his loving family by his side. Born January 16, 1932, at Bluefield, he was the son of the late Kermit Butler and Reva Doyle Butler. Carl was a graduate of Concord Training School (now known as Athens High School) in 1949. Carl joined the Plumbers, Pipefitters, Steamfitters Union in 1961 and retired from Local #10 Richmond Virginia in 1993, having last worked on the Pikeview High School building project. Carl loved working and farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Cheri Lynn Hurst and Terry Dwane Butler. Survivors include his devoted and caring wife of 59 years, Elaine Thorn Butler of the Home Five children Carl Richard “Boe” Butler, Jr. &companion Sue McKenzie of Athens Kelly Butler & wife Vanasa of Little Island Creek Mary Ann Linkous & husband David of Princeton Tona Lumpkin & husband Walter of Hamilton OH Dee Dee Hill & companion Jay Long of Princeton 12 Grandchildren 26 Great Grandchildren
Two grandchildren that he raised Lee and Tony Hurst of Princeton Three Sisters Georgia Quick & husband Dewey of Princeton Ila Coburn & husband James of Little Island Creek Marie Dove & husband Buck of Princeton A host of nieces and nephews His two canine friends, Toby & Bonnie The family has honored Carl’s request, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Butler Family Cemetery at Hilltop. Family & friends are requested to meet at the cemetery, for those that do not know where the cemetery is located, please meet at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton by Noon on Saturday. After the memorial service family and friends are invited to the family farm on Little Island Creek. The family has made a request, in lieu of flowers; please make donations to the Bluefield Union Mission, 2203 Bluefield Avenue, Bluefield WV 24701.
