PAOLI – Carl Wayne Robertson, 605 Apache Drive, Paoli, formerly of Orleans, went to meet his Savior Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 5:45 p.m. at his residence.
Wayne was one of ten children born into the family of Elza and Amanda (Bowman) Robertson. Wayne was born February 27, 1928, on a farm near Heltonville in Lawrence County. The family moved when Wayne was four years old to a farm just east of Spring Mill State Park. He attended school in Mitchell and was inducted into the Army when he was 18 and deployed to Japan where he proudly served his country as a military policeman.
Wayne married Marilyn Chatham June 22, 1949, nearly 60 years ago. They are the parents of four children: twins, Denny (deceased) and Danny and his wife, Rebecca, of Freetown; Lynn Johnson, Bedford, and friend, David Huber, Columbus; and Kimberly Scott and husband, Gerald, of Orleans.
There are five grandsons: Bradley Robertson of Seymour, Matthew Robertson of Freetown, Scott Johnson of Scottsdale, Arizona, Tyler Johnson of Bloomington, and Cory Scott of Paoli; one granddaughter, Wendy Hunt of French Lick. There are three great grandsons and five great granddaughters.
Infant son Denny; his parents; brothers, Everett, Charles, Ray, James, and Eathle Robertson; and sisters, Darvil Clark, Blanche Whitted, Ruby Hawk, and Avis Watts, preceded him in death.
Wayne was a wonderful husband, fantastic father, terrific grandfather, and a doting great grandfather.
He was a people person and was employed in sales most of his working years. He had been employed at the Lawrence County Farm Bureau Co-op in Mitchell, Ralston Purina, and Holland Dairy. He retired as a mechanic from Reynolds, Inc.
A member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for over 50 years, he served as a deacon, a position that he took very seriously. He was handy at doing chores around the church. It was here he raised his children to know the Lord. He served his Lord with great faith, always turning to the Lord for those bumps in the road, then came a hurdle he could not overcome and his Savior took him home.
He was a member of the Orleans Warren Brock American Legion Post No. 69 and served as chaplain until ten years ago when his health began to fail.
Funeral service will be at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Orleans with Rev. Bill Graham and Rev. David Hoskins officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Warren Brock American Legion Post No. 69.
The body will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until the service at the church.
A private family burial will be at a later date in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial Gifts: Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Endowment Fund or Hoosier Uplands Hospice.
