Mrs. Carol A. Tirella, 50, passed away Monday, February 2, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, February 5, from 2:00-4:00 and from 7:00-9:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104, and again Friday, February 6, from 7:00-9:00 PM, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in the Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 7, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Monsignor John J. McSweeney, celebrant. Interment will follow the service in the Garden of St. Matthew at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, Matthews, NC.

Mrs. Tirella was born June 28, 1958, in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter to Elizabeth (Hilbert) and the late William Levis. A graduate of Baldwin High School and the University of Dayton, Carol worked in sales and finance for NCR, and after receiving her MBA,
served as treasurer of Coopers & Lybrand in New York. She also served as the chairperson of TMA, a national financial professional organization. She left these roles for her most cherished career of lovingly raising her precious sons and caring for her family. Carol was a talented comedic actress, singer and public speaker.
As a member of The Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in New York, she served in many capacities including the Choir and the Financial Committee. Carol devoted many hours volunteering at her children's schools, advocating for the Anaphylactic Allergy network, and lifting up those she knew with her kindness, generosity, ready wit and grace. She most recently was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte.

Survivors include her devoted husband and best friend, Paul Tirella of Charlotte; beloved children and lights of her life, John J. and William H. Tirella of Charlotte; mother and step-father, Betty and Richard Sweeney of PA; brothers, William (PA),
James (OH), Daniel (FL), and Richard (PA) Levis, and sister, Patricia Collopy (PA). Numerous other family members and friends are also left to cherish memories of this wonderful woman.
