Carol Jean Ferris Cope went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2012 at her southern home in Humboldt, Tennessee at the age of 74 after her battle with cancer.

Carol, known as Jean or fondly called "Chicky" by her father, was born, July 8, 1937 to Edwin and Thelma Ferris in Flint, Michigan. She grew up in the Clio area with her sister, Barbara, and three brothers, Jim, Ron, and Paul. Her mother had her fourth brother, Phil, just months before Jean had her first child.

Jean married Benjamin Babcock in 1955 and they had two sons, Steven Benjamin and Jeffrey Lee.

In May 5, 1972, she married Billie (Bill) Joe Cope. Jean and Bill, often, hosted family, friends and guests in their Lobdell Lake home in Fenton, Michigan. Jean loved to cook and the more the merrier especially the grandchildren. Although she never learned to swim that didn't stop her from riding on the pontoon and watching everyone else swimming, skiing, or fishing. In retirement, Jean and Bill spent wintertime in Florida, relaxing with other "snow birds". Shortly after Bill's passing, Jean left her northern roots and moved to Tennessee to live with her son, Steve and family. With a giggle, she learned and loved to use the phrase, "Ya'll." She was an avid listener to Bill Gaither Southern Gospel music and the Sunday morning worship service at Humboldt First Baptist via radio.

Jean is survived by her two sons, Steven Babcock and his wife, Dottie, Humboldt, TN; Jeffrey Babcock and his wife, Denise, Mt. Morris, MI; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Barbara Osmun (Chuck), Swartz Creek, MI; three brothers and their wives, James Ferris (Sharon), Ronald Ferris, Sr. (Wanda), all Clio, MI, and Paul Ferris, Sr. (Erma), Tucson, AZ; and her step-daughter Tammie McElroy and her husband Howard, Thornton, CO; and step-son, Timothy Cope, Swartz Creek, MI. Jean is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Phillip Ferris.

Relatives and friends of Carol Jean Cope are welcome at O'Guinn Funeral Home, 503 N. Mill Street, Clio, Michigan, on Thursday, March 22 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be held, Friday, March 23 at 11:00 AM officiated by her son, the Reverend Steven Babcock. Memorial donations in the fight to find a cure for cancer can be given to American Cancer Society, online at www.cancer.org or by check payable to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Burial will be at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no graveside service.

The family of Jean Cope would like to thank all their relatives and friends who showed so many expressions of love to Jean during her lifetime. She loved "ya'll" dearly.
