PATE, Caroline Lowe, 91, passed away at her home on Feb. 24, 2010. Born in Macon , Georgia on August 6, 1918 to Claudia Ross and TJ Lowe, Caroline moved to Tampa at age seven with her family. She attended Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Junior High School, and Plant High School. At Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee , Caroline was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Presented with the Golden Arrow after 50 years of membership, Caroline continued to be an active participant in Pi Beta Phi Alumnae events until recent years. Caroline was a true southern lady who dearly loved her family and friends. She especially enjoyed entertaining at the family’s beach cottage at Indian Rocks. Her community involvement included the Junior League of Tampa, Colonial Dames, Amaryllis Garden Club, and St. John’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club as well as the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. Caroline was predeceased by her husband Frank Coney Pate formerly of Hawkinsville, Georgia. When she met him, she described him as “the love of my life” and surprised everyone by eloping with him in 1938. Survivors include her daughter Claudia Pate Young and husband William T. (Bill), two grandchildren: Thomas Lowe Young (Alison) and Cynthia Young Cox (David): three great-grand children: Hayes Caroline Young, Lilly Everett Young and Hugh Thomas Young and several Georgia cousins.Following interment at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, a Memorial Service will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 903 S. Orleans Ave. at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 27. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church or to a charity of your choice.
