Carolyn Daniels Voshell, passed away on January 19, 2012, at the Kroontje Center in Blacksburg, VA. She was born August 14, 1925 in Wanchese, NC, where she spent her youth. She graduated from Manteo High School and attended North Carolina State Teachers College (now East Carolina University). She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for a fuel oil company in Rocky Mount, NC. She married Joseph R. Voshell in 1946. Joe and Carolyn resided on Roanoke Island, NC until they moved to Norfolk in 1948 where they lived until 2010. Carolyn spent most of her time as a homemaker, but she was employed part time for many years as a substitute teacher in the Norfolk Public School system. She was an active member of Talbot Park Baptist Church for about 60 years. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially beachcombing, fishing, crabbing, and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph R. Voshell; her parents, Melvin R. and Carrie D. Daniels; a sister, Sibyl D. Jones Ward; and a brother, Melvin R. Daniels, Jr. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, J. Reese Voshell, Jr. and Trisha J. Voshell of Floyd, VA; a granddaughter, Stephanie M. Voshell, of Blacksburg, VA; and four nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on January 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Talbot Park Baptist Church, 6919 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA with the Rev. Keith Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Talbot Park Baptist Church. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel is handling arrangements. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Showalter Center, the Kroontje Center, and Medi Home Health and Hospice in Blacksburg, VA for the exceptional care and kindness they provided to her.
