Carolyn Faye Dick, 66, Liberty, MO, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. Carolyn was born on October 16, 1944 in Fresno, CA. Her father Lyle Oldfield, mother Jannie Oldfield Hayes, and brother Larry Oldfield precede her in death. She is survived by her cherished husband of 51 years, Fred Dick, daughters Sherryl
(Kent) Gerke, Lee’s Summit, MO; Sharlene (Gary) Wells, Springfield, MO; Deanna (Brent) Majors, St. Joseph, MO; son Fred Aaron Dick (Sara Valdivia), Avondale, MO; brother Jerry Oldfield, Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren Krista Gerke Tucker, Michelle Wells Convirs, Aaron Majors, Joshua Dick, Eric Wells, Amy Majors, David Gerke, Kyle Gerke, and Jacob Dick, great-grand children Matthew and Luke Convirs, Ariana Majors, Emma Wells, Joshua Dick, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Carolyn retired in 2003, after a 25-year career at Hallmark Cards as a selector and an Export Traffic Specialist. She was often regarded there as a second mom to many of her colleagues. She loved spreading Christmas cheer by adorning her home and others’ with Hallmark ornaments. Carolyn enjoyed coordinating and cooking for get-togethers, holidays, birthdays, and special occasions, especially family time. She was a devoted member of Liberty United Methodist Church and made many lasting bonds and friendships. Carolyn enjoyed gardening, reading, working puzzles, and volunteering in the community and at church. She was a very caring and compassionate person, brightening any room with her smile.
A Celebration of Life service will begin with a visitation from 9:00-11:00 am, Saturday, April 9, followed by services at 11:00 am at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset Ave., Liberty, MO 64068 (816) 781-4554. Burial will take place at 3:00 pm, Laclede Cemetery, Laclede, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Liberty United Methodist Church, Head for the Cure Foundation (brain cancer research), 250 Richards Road, Kansas City, Mo 64116, or a charity of your choice in Carolyn’s name.
