JANESVILLE--- Carolyn J. Dooley, age 82, of Janesville, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Cedar Crest. She was born in Cumberland County, IL, on August 28, 1930, the daughter of Ralph and Olive (Pattison) McCormick. Carolyn graduated from Greenup High School as valedictorian and senior class president at age 17. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1952 where she was a member of the Sigma, Sigma, Sigma sorority. Her first teaching position was at Casey High School, Casey, IL as a home economics teacher. Carolyn returned to school to complete master's courses in Special Education at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. She was employed by the Janesville School District at Parker High School as a Special Education teacher from 1982 to 1992¬. She especially enjoyed team teaching with fellow faculty members in the math, home ec, and english departments. Carolyn married Kenneth "Mike" Dooley on September 12, 1953 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Greenup, IL. Almost sixty years later, she was still his adored partner. Mike was calmed and anchored by her presence in Memory Care every day. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Mike (who continues to reside at Cedar Crest); 7 children: Timothy Dooley, Jane Dooley, Samuel Dooley, Elizabeth "Betsy" Dooley, Daniel Dooley, Amy (Larry) Hainstock, and Sarah (Stephen) Lanchak; and 8 grandchildren: (Tim) Abram and Margaret Carolyn Dooley, (Betsy) Molly and Tess Borneman, Emma and Allison Hainstock, and Catherine and Nicholas Lanchak. Carolyn was devoted to family. She was an exceptional southern cook. She baked cookies for every kid in the Indian Reservation neighborhood during the 1960s and 70s. She was happiest at home with her family, laughing, debating, and drinking coffee in the "blue room" or sunbathing on the deck. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wayne McCormick. She is survived by two sisters, Patsy Darling of Greenup, IL and Nancy Summers of Danville, IN, who together with Carolyn, and their aunts, mother and grandmother spent their favorite hours visiting and laughing in rocking chairs around fireplaces in Greenup. Carolyn also enjoyed the visits to Cedar Crest from her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Kaye Dooley, who live in Janesville. Private family graveside services were held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Monday morning, June 10th, where all present celebrated our love and gratitude for our beloved mom with strong, hot coffee. Chaplain David Brynelson of Agrace HospiceCare presided. The Dooley family would like to thank the entire Cedar Crest and Agrace Hospice staff for their support and help in making our mom's last days so peaceful. We were, and continue to be, astonished by their patient, loving, and dedicated care of our parents. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, 3001 W. Memorial Drive Janesville, WI 53548. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY is assisting the family.
