Mrs. Carolyn Shugart, 65, died Monday afternoon (February 13, 2012) at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of St. Augustine, FL, but she has lived in Waycross since 1971. She was employed by Okefenokee Technical College for 25 years in several positions, concluding with Institution Effectiveness Director. She was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church but attended Crossview Church of God of Prophecy. Several years ago, she participated in Leadership Waycross. She is the daughter of the late Elmore Joiner and Ethel McClellan Joiner. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Ketchen; and one grandson, Kanaan Cloyd. Survivors include her husband, Butch Shugart of Waycross; four daughters, Tina Kerr (husband William) of Jacksonville, FL, Terri Fletcher of Waycross, Christina Brown (husband Jeff) of Savannah, and Tammi Sweat of Waycross; two sons, Josh Sweat (wife Erica Forst) of Athens, and Zakary Austin Shugart of Waycross; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; four siblings, Janice Mariotti (husband Neal), Mack Joiner (wife Pat), Ronnie Joiner (wife Angie), and Tommy Joiner all of St. Augustine, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday (February 17, 2012) at Crossview Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Music Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Camp Twin Lakes, 600 Means St., Suite 110, Atlanta, GA 30318.
