Carroll L. Smith, 84, of the 2000 block of Cherry Lane, Chesapeake, VA, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2011, to join his beloved wife and son. A native of Mathews County, VA, he was the son of the late Brandon and Florrie Smith. He was a tug boat waterman and worked for Curtis Bay Towing Company. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret L. Smith; and his son, Carroll Brandon Smith. A devoted family man, he dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Margaret Elaine Hughes and husband Jim of Chesapeake, VA; his son, Thomas V. Smith and wife Nancy of Norfolk, VA; daughter-in-law, Bernice Smith; six grandchildren, Charlene Mowery, Janice Phillips, Tony Gower, Jessica Mckenzie, Jennifer Smith and Jason Smith; and twelve great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel with Gene Langley officiating. The burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
