HYDE PARK - Catherine B. Minard, born July 25, 1921 in Hartford, Conn., passed away January 29, 2007 at River Valley in Poughkeepsie. She was 85 years old.
Mrs. Minard was a Book Binder at Western Printing for over 20 years until her retirement in 1986.
A member of the Hyde Park Reformed Dutch Church, she was a 45 year resident of Hyde Park and previously of Wappingers Falls.
Mrs. Minard was a member of the Gold Star Mothers, the VFW Auxiliary of the Vail Wolff McKenna Frye Post #170, Poughkeepsie, the New Paltz Grange, and the F.W. Vanderbilt Garden Assoc., Hyde Park.
She volunteered at the VA Medical Center at Castle Point, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital, and Victory Lake Nursing Center.
For many years, she was a Poll Inspector in Hyde Park for the Dutchess County Board of Elections.
Catherine loved to read, work in her garden and grow roses. Her three cockatiels, Marie, Charlie, and their baby, Peanuts, were very special to her. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a daughter of the late George and Bertha Burleigh, and a graduate of the New Paltz Normal School.
In August, 1936 in Highland, she married Vernon Minard. He predeceased her on December 18, 1968.
She had three children. A Gold Star Mother, her youngest son, Earl C. Minard was killed in action on March 14, 1968 in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include her oldest son, Vernon C. Minard of Wappingers Falls; her only daughter, Helen J. West of Pleasant Valley; eleven grandchildren, Butch (Lewis) West of Wappingers Falls, Michael ¯Mike¯ West and wife, Karen of Rhinebeck, Michelle Chmielewski and husband, George, of South Carolina, Sarah Heller / Minard of Wappingers Falls, Ashley Heller / Minard of Wappingers Falls, Catherine Lembo of Goshen, Charles H. Minard of Modena, Thomas McMahon Jr. and wife, Lillian of Gardiner, Vernon C. Minard Jr. and wife, Margaret of Poughkeepsie, Kimberly DeRobertis of Newburgh, and Amanda Mako and husband, Jim, of the Bronx; and nine great grandchildren, Tiffany and Nicole DeRobertis, Ashia Lembo, Ryan ¯JR¯ and Brittany Minard, Michael West Jr., Holden Scott West, and Amber and Ian Chmielewski
Her nieces and nephews include Estella Diaz and husband Miguel of Highland, Phyllis Skimmer of Massachusetts, Cathy Keistead of Vancouver, Canada, and Roger Burleigh, William ¯Billy¯ Burleigh, Jeanette Young, and Harold ¯Vernon¯ Burleigh, all of Jacksonville, FL.
Other family members include two daughters in law, Marie Minard of Modena and Veronica Heller of Poughkeepsie, and cousin and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. William Minard Jr. of Wappingers Falls
Catherine was one of five children. She was predeceased by two brothers, George Burleigh in 1967 and Nathaniel Burleigh in 2000; and two sisters, Aita Davis in 2003 and Bertha Sawyer in 2004.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, Friday, February 2, 2007 at Sweet¯s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be at 10 A.M., Saturday, February 3rd at the Hyde Park Reformed Dutch Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Rev. Thom Fiet will officiate.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Lloyd, Highland.
