Catherine M. Davidson
Greenville, SC
Catherine M. Van Horn Davidson, 98, of Greenville, SC passed away on January 31, 2012.
She was born in Muncie, IN in 1913 to Florence (Canning) and William I. Monaghan.
Formerly of Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, IL and Boca Raton, FL, Mrs. Davidson was an 11-year resident of Rolling Green Village, Greenville.
She was preceded in death by husbands Edward F. Van Horn and E. Craig Davidson.
She is survived by daughters Victoria Eident of Indianapolis, IN; Elizabeth Van Horn of Fox Point, WI.; Patricia Hart (Gregory) of Greenville; and by stepdaughters Mary Essex of Elgin, IL, and Ann Davidson of Pfafftown, NC. She was blessed by nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mrs Davidson attended Butler University in Indianapolis. She studied laboratory technician work, and after college she worked as a laboratory technician in the medical office of Paul Van B. Allen, M.D. During WWII she worked at the American Airlines ticket counter at Midway Airport and at the Palmer House, Chicago IL. One of her goals was to fly all the American Airlines routes from coast to coast. She met her first husband Edward Van Horn just prior to WWII at an airlines social event. During a three-day pass from the U.S. Navy in 1944, they were married in Chicago.
After Edward's death in 1957, Catherine became a real estate broker for Hearthstone Realtors in Hinsdale, IL where she worked and continued to raise her three daughters. She married Craig Davidson in Hinsdale, IL in 1963. They retired to Boca Raton, FL in 1966 where they lived until 1985. After returning to reside in Clarendon Hills, IL, and after Mr. Davidson's death in 1987, she volunteered many hours in the Hinsdale Hospital gift shop and was a frequent participant in water aerobics at Westmont Health Core Fitness.
She moved to Greenville South Carolina in 2001 where she happily passed the last decade of her life near her youngest daughter, Patti, and in the loving care of the staff at Rolling Green Retirement Village.
An inurnment will be held at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Hillside, IL. Arrangements are being handled by Mackey Mortuary, Greenville. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Rolling Green Village, 1 Hoke Smith Blvd., Greenville, SC 29615.
