Ceceile Eloise Morgan was born on June 29, 1925 in Content, St. Catherine, Jamaica, W.I., the fifth child of Constantine and Whilelmina Whitter.
She received her early education at the Guanaboa Vale All Age primary school, later completing a diploma in the 3rd Year Jamaica Local Examination, an entrance requirement which qualified her to enter training for the nursing and/or teaching professions.
Her continuing education included various other accomplishments: Diploma of Nursing from Harrow Hospital, London; Obstetrical Nursing Certificate from Winnipeg General Hospital, Canada; Psychiatric Nursing Certificate from Downstate University of New York Medical Center; Diplomas in Typewriting, Stenography and Shorthand from Columbia University, New York; Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Marymount Manhattan College, New York; and Master of Arts degree in Health Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York.
Ceceile's early career included serving as Postmaster, Registrar of Births and Deaths, and Manager of a Government Savings Bank in Jamaica. After completing her nursing training, she served as R.n. in Charge of hospitals in London, England and Winnipeg, Canada.
She served as Assistant Nursing Care Coordinator in St. Luke's Hospital, New York, from 1969 until her retirement in 1984. During that period, she also gave her services to various nursing homes and day care centers. Ceceile was noted as a "committed and reliable professional nurse" and as an effective leader of the staff under her supervision.
Upon her retirement, the Assistant Vice President of Nursing personally thanked her for her contributions to the nursing care of patients at the hospital, adding: "It is with regret that I accept your retirement resignation effective December 31, 1984... You will be sincerely missed by your many friends at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital Center."
After her retirement, Ceceile, having relocated to Florida, was not content to be idle. She continued to serve part-time in private duty capacities, as well as providing in-hospital and in-home care.
She was a dedicated church member, serving in a variety of posts, including Sabbath School teacher, Secretary and Superintendent. She served as a Youth Counselor, Deaconess and Greeter. She was the featured speaker for many church occasions such as Health and Psychology events.
She helped many needy people both through her church affiliation and privately; donating food, clothes, furniture and other necessities to those in need.
Ceceile was always noted as a generous giver, donating substantial sums to various causes and institutions. In addition to constant support of SDA Churches, she provided financial help to students of West Indies College, Mandeville, Jamaica; Southern College, Oakwood College and Andrews University. She made notable contributions to Global Missions, the Voice of Prophecy, It Is Written, Adventist World Radio, Faith for Today, Breath of Life, Christian Record Foundation, and a host of others.
Ceceile's hobbies were varied. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and was noted for delicious creations, especially her corn bread. She also enjoyed crafts, cultivating roses and traveling.
She is survived by her children: Lascelle and Lorna of London, England; Dawn of Vancouver, Canada; Marcia of Bronx, New York; and Rodger of Atlanta, Georgia; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great, great grandchildren; and siblings: Sophia, Mavis, Seymour, Kenneth, Ernest, and Alexander.
