Lang, Jr. of Brenham, are set for 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Pavilion at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Rev. Edward Triem will officiate and interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27th at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. A memorial service to honor Rev. Cecil Lang, Jr. will be held at a later date at the Caldwell Presbyterian Church. Rev. Lang died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Care Center in Brenham. On Wednesday afternoon on July 22, 1925, Rev. Cecil Lang, Sr. went to Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee where his wife Annie presented him a son, named Cecil H. Lang, Jr. Cecil said he remembered his mother taking him to the picture window where they marveled at the scenes the Lord painted with lightning in the sky over the Smokey Mountains. When his sister, Elizabeth Ann was born, his mother did not survive. Cecil and his father moved to Kilgore where his father preached until the church burned. His father left Kilgore in 1940 and went into the Army as a Chaplain. In 1941 Cecil went to Texas Tech College. He was drafted into the army after the war began and he spent two years in Germany. In the summer of 1948 he answered the Lord's call and became a minister. He registered in Austin College and then in Austin Seminary. He was ordained on June 1, 1952 in Overton, Texas, by Paris Presbytery. From there he went to Killeen to a church of 126 members with over 300 in worship each Sunday. Ministering to the military kept him there for five years until Rockport called him to the marine world. For twelve years he learned about boats and fishing. He worked a year as a donut cutter and spent two and a half years as a fund raiser for Prevent Blindness in Houston. While in Houston, the Pulpit Committee from Westminister Church in Galveston found and called him. He spent fourteen years there and believing the congregation needed a new pastor, he resigned and moved to Brenham. He spent eighty Sundays preaching in Sealy as their temporary Pastor. The Caldwell/Somerville Presbyterian churches called him as a part-time pastor where he spent fourteen years. Cecil is preceded in death by his parents; and a step-son. He was loved by all and wished that in lieu of flowers, at his death, memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. He is survived by his wife Joyce Lange of Brenham; a daughter Lynn Ware of Corpus Christi; sons, David Lang of Houston and Mark Lang of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; step-children, Rusty Morrison of Houston and John and his wife Vicky McClain of Little River, Texas along with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. We invite you to visit our website at www.stricklandfuneralhomes.com and sign the register book for Cecil H. Lang, Jr.
