Cyr, Charlene Carol 70 06/11/1940 08/09/2010 Charlene Carol (Culver) Cyr died of cancer Aug. 9, 2010, at her home on Sauvie Island. Charlene was born June 11, 1940, in Portland to proud parents Clarence and Marian Culver. She attended Russellville Elementary School and graduated from David Douglas High School in 1958. Charlene was active in many clubs, rally, and was May Fete Queen her senior year. Charlene married Bert Lukens in 1959, started her family, and was a mother and homemaker through the 1960s. Her marriage ended in 1970 and she embarked on a career in the hospitality industry, working for the Anchorage Restaurant and the Ramada Inn in Portland. In 1971 she met Daniel Cyr and they married in 1973. Charlene continued to work in a variety of industries, including real estate and computer sales and service. In 1990 her husband launched his second career, consumer show production, specializing in hot rod and custom car shows. Charlene was right by his side and handled all aspects of hospitality and event coordination for a business that included the four largest indoor car shows on the West Coast. Upon retiring in 2005, Charlene and Dan embarked on traveling the USA, Europe, and Asia while wintering in Arizona. Always cheerful and very caring, Char loved life and was active throughout with organizing gatherings for classmates, club members, neighborhood associations, and just good time get-togethers. Her social circle grew with each and every endeavor. She was remarkable and memorable and will be missed by all whom she touched. Charlene is survived by her husband, Dan; sons, Kenton Lukens and wife, Maureen of Gresham; Kurt Lukens of Portland; Kreg Lukens and wife, Stacy of Memphis, Tenn.; stepson, Currin Cyr of Bellevue, Wash.; brother, Robert Culver and wife, Joan; sister, Marilyn Thomas and husband, Peter; plus eight wonderful grandchildren. Please join in a celebration of Charlene's life at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, in New Hope Community Church, 11731 S.E. Stevens Road, Portland. Charlene and family have requested that contributions in her name be made to the American Cancer Society, Ovarian Cancer Research.
