Charlene Finley LeMay, 76, resident of Greely Drive, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Glen Alexander and A. T. Pate officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery in the Culleoka Community. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and after 12:00 noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born and reared in the Campbell Station Community in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Charles R. Finley and Sallie Mai Anderson Finley. She attended school in the community and graduated from Culleoka High School in 1954. She married the love of her life, Rex LeMay, December 28, 1954, after which they moved to Houston, Texas where he was stationed in the U. S. Air Force.
After living in several states, they returned to Maury County to make their home and she was active in civic and community affairs for many years. She was a faithful member of Campbell Station Church of Christ and her leadership was instrumental in beginning the remodeling of the Campbell Station Community Center in 1997. For twenty-one years, she was department manager for WalMart in Lewisburg. For sixteen years, she worked diligently in fund-raising for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, with the Channel 5 telethon, and was also a supporter of the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. LeMay was a devoted friend to many and to her work as a volunteer with Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She loved sports and had been an avid bowler in years passed.
Survivors include her loving husband, Rex LeMay; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Dawn Fitzgerald LeMay; aunt, Lucille Anglin Potts; sisters-in-law, Martha Sellers, Wanda Padgett, and Sheila Reece; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her cats, Sister and Sally.
Active pallbearers are Billy Pigg, Mike Anderson, Michael Anderson, Ron Sellers, Ken Padgett, and Clay Harris. Honorary pallbearers include Lonney LaFever, Marlin Church, Steve Walls, Joel Meriwether, Tommy Lentz, Doug Woods, David Fitzgerald, Dustin Fitzgerald, Bobby Wales, men of Campbell Station Church of Christ, former co-workers at WalMart in Lewisburg; and friends in the Campbell Station Community.
The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Gibran Naddy and staff, Dr. Amit Choksi, and Dr. Daniel Skarzynski for their care and concern, and to her close neighbors, Kathy and Lonney LaFever, Cindy and Richard Bramlett and Mamma, and Beverly and Clay Harris for many kindnesses through the years.
The family suggests memorials to Campbell Station Community Center, c/o Brent LeMay, 117 Bass Drive, Columbia 38401; Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Fund, 410 Allied Drive Nashville, TN 37211; or Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, 2200 Children's Way Nashville, TN 37232.
