MOSSMAN, CHARLES ALBERT - age 90, of West Knoxville, passed away Wednesday January 25, 2012. He was a member of Bearden United Methodist Church for more than half a century. Charles (Chuck or Charlie) Mossman was born in Greenville, Pennsylvania March 22, 1921, and graduated with an Electrical Engineering Degree from Grove City College in 1943. He worked for Wright Aeronautical in Woodbridge, New Jersey for five years, during the war, before coming to Oak Ridge National Lab in 1948. Charles worked at ORNL for 40 years before retiring in 1988. He had a long and distinguished career in the Instrumentation and Controls Division, working on more than 30 different programs. A section head at the lab for many years, he continued to consult for several years after his retirement. After Charles' retirement he devoted his time to his church. Preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ethel Welker Mossman. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Lois Peden (Polly) Mossman of Knoxville; son David Mossman and wife Grace of Gilbert, Arizona; daughter Judy Clark and husband Claud of Marietta, Georgia; son Donald Mossman and wife Sharon of Bellevue, Washington; son Peter Mossman and wife Sandra of Knoxville; grandchildren Kenneth Mossman of Phoenix, Arizona; Charlie Clark and wife Erin of Atlanta, Georgia; Casey Clark and wife Ruth of Atlanta, Georgia; P'nina Topham and husband Abe of Houston Texas; Aliza Mossman of Bellevue, Washington; Leah Sketo and husband Blake of Roswell, Georgia; Keegan Peterzell and wife Jessica of Huntsville, Alabama; great grandchildren Carson Clark, Harris Clark, Hudson Clark, Barrett Sketo, Aiden Peterzell, Jack Forester, and Lisa Forester; sister Dorothy Hibben of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The family wants to thank the loving caregivers at Elmcroft of West Knoxville and Avalon Hospice for their kind help. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Caryl Griffin officiating. Entombment will be private at Highland Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to Bearden United Methodist Church, 4407 Sutherland Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919-5009.
