Gastonia Charles Allan Harrison passed from this world on January 31, 2011. He was 89 years old. Charles was born in Washington, DC on September 18, 1921. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Harrison, his sister Susan Talbot, and children; Charles A Harrison II, his wife, Dale Harrison, Rodger D Harrison, and his wife Pam Harrison, and Jennifer Harrison Van Wie. Charles leaves behind eight grandchildren; Chris, Angela, and Ryan Harrison, Trofe and his wife Amy and Trinity Campbell, Justin and Heather Van Wie and Tiffany and her husband Dave Macasaet, as well as eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Father Allan Wilson Harrison, his mother Roxanna Allan Harrison, his brother Aaron Wilson Harrison II, his sister Francis Reedy and his daughter Cheryl Harrison Brown. As a combat veteran of World War II Charles served with the US Army Corps of engineers in the Pacific until the war ended. Returning to the US in 1947, he married Betty his loving wife of 66 years. After the war he earned his civil engineering degree from Virginia Tech. In the early fifties he moved his family to Gastonia, NC, where he started Harrison Realty Company in 1953. His Grandson Trofe Campbell continues his legacy of the family business today. A prominent Gastonia business leader and prolific home builder he was instrumental in the founding of the Gaston County Board of Realtors and the Gaston County Home Builders Association where he served as a past president of both organizations as well as being the recipient of Realtor of the year on multiple occasions. He was a Master Mason and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. Until his death he served as a director for Paramedics for Children a NC international Children's charity. Charles was a devoted husband and a loving father who loved life. He will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 pm, Thursday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors with Dr. John Frye and Pastor John Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park with military rites by the WWII Last Man Club of Gaston County. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Paramedics for Children on line at www.paramedicsforchildren.org or mailed to Paramedics for Children, 9709-2 Emerald Point Drive, Charlotte, NC 28278.
