Mr. Charles "Charlie" Donald Wink, 88, of 840 Eastland Road, Waynesboro, PA entered into rest Thursday, December 29, 2011 in the Waynesboro Hospital. Born September 2, 1923 in Waynesboro, Charlie was the son of the late Alfred T. and Abbie (Haupt) Wink and husband of the late Frances L. (Fisher) Wink. He graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1941 and later received his Associates Degree from Penn State University. During World War II he worked for the Army Air Force, Davis-Monthan Field, Tuscan, Arizona and then returned to Waynesboro to complete his Machinist and Drafting Apprenticeship at Landis Tool Company. In 1956 he accepted a position with Fairchild Aircraft as Layout Engineer. In 1959, he went to Atlanta, Georgia as Design Engineer for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. In 1961, he and his wife returned to Waynesboro after accepting a position at Mack Trucks, Inc., Hagerstown, as Senior Designer, later becoming Sr. Project Engineer and then Supervisor of Design, Power Train Engineering, until his retirement in 1986. After retirement, he founded a consulting company, WinTech Design, Inc. and conducted seminars and taught classes in industrial engineering at various companies and at the Penn State Mont Alto Campus through the Continuing Education Program. A lifelong Lutheran, Charlie was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of the Adult Department, General Superintendent of Sunday School, member of Church Council, instructor of the Acolytes and host of the Sunday morning coffee hour. He was active in several engineering societies. He served as Chairman of the Cumberland Valley SAE, President of the Southern Engineering Society of Automotive Engineers and served on the National Diesel Engine Committee and National Nominating Committee. Over the years he devoted many hours to the community including serving in a variety of leadership roles. He was Master of Acacia Lodge 586, member of Consistory Harrisburg 32, Zembo Shrine, Franklin County Shrine Club, YMCA Heritage Club, Waynesboro Jaycees, Mack Management Club, life member of the ATH&L Fire Company, social member of the American Legion and a volunteer for the AARP Tax Program for over 20 years. Charlie was also a member of E. Stoner's Boy Scouts Troop 5. He helped form Troop 19 and served as Institutional Representative. He enjoyed golf, bowling, traveling abroad with family and friends and collecting coins. Ballroom dancing was a favorite for him and his wife. They were members of the Pen Mar Dance Club and the Nine and Ninety Dance Club, of which he served as President. He especially enjoyed the events held at the Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown. He and his wife of over 60 years, Frances L. (Fisher) Wink, were married on April 21, 1946. She died December 26, 2006. He is survived by one sister, Beatrice W. Vannoy, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 2, 2012 in Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Church Street, Waynesboro, with Rev. Dennis Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. A Masonic funeral will be held by the members of Acacia Lodge #586 just prior to the religious service. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. Services are being handled by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro.
