Charles L. Helt, Sr., 74, of Cadiz, formerly of Hopedale, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at Trinity Medical Center, West in Steubenville. He was born August 20, 1937 in Bridgeport, OH, a son of the late Paul Franklin and Irene Yates Helt. Charles was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Brooke County Landfill and R.&F. Coal Company and a member of the First Church of Christ in Cadiz. He enjoyed softball, bowling and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany; two brothers, Paul and John Helt; and three sisters, Jean Ridgley, Frances Benline and Donna Seabright. Surviving are his wife, Edna Hatten Helt; a son, Charles (Debra) Helt, Jr. of Canton; a daughter, Michele (Andy) Godman of Scio; four grandchildren: Michael, Ashley, Danielle and Haley; and a brother, Carl (Sandy) Helt of Warren. Friends may call Monday, 4-8 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Cadiz Union Cemetery with Dean Blythe officiating.
